Working from home seems like the perfect job to many people. You can work at your own hours, you can wear your most comfortable clothes and your couch is just within reach if you need to. The truth is that it takes a great deal of discipline and scheduling to be able to effectively work from home. If you decide to go that way there are rules for working at home that you should understand in order to work successfully.

Make a schedule. Examine your schedule carefully as to what time can you work best during the day. If you have a quiet time in the afternoon while the children are asleep, then make use of that time to work effectively. If you find it more comfortable to work late at night while everyone is sleeping, then go ahead. It is easier to plan your schedule depending on the routines in your house rather than ask everyone to adjust for your chosen schedule.

Set a work area for yourself. Find a perfect spot in your home where you can set up your mini office. Setting up a proper and comfortable workplace at home will give you a feeling of a real workplace. Place a small cabinet and cork boards on your table to place your needs like papers, pens, important notices, etc. A laptop placed on top of a kitchen table is not a good idea for a workplace.

Use caller ID. Using a caller ID will let you screen your callers. If you are serious with your work, you may chose not answer a call from a friend to signal her that you are busy with your work. Answer only calls regarding work to let you focus on what you are doing.

Turn off the TV. It is very tempting to eat while working and while watching TV. You may try to convince yourself that TV will not hinder your work but unfortunately, some don’t realize that they are not concentrating enough on their work while the TV is on. When you are working from home, make sure that you have the obligation to finish your task as soon as possible so as to give way to your other obligations.

Endless studies, magazine articles and health reports have consistently confirmed that unprotected sun exposure is the leading cause of premature dermatological aging, wrinkles and skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers and accounts for more than one million cases of melanoma skin cancer found in the U.S. each year. Without doubt, skin cancer is a very serious issue for people who spend too much time under the sun without the right protection.

Vitamin D may be the key to the benefits of sun exposure since it has a role in regulating cell growth and thus may be able to inhibit tumor growth. Sunlight in moderation should be beneficial to us, but this also means taking extra care and being knowledgeable about sunscreen with a Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or higher if you plan to spend a lot of time outdoors in the sun. Medical experts recommend limiting one’s exposure from fie to fifteen minutes three times a week – the frequency and time that is ample to reap the benefits of Vitamin D production related to the sun. We all need a bit of sunshine in our lives, but it’s important to remember that the amount of sun needed to make enough Vitamin D is always less than the amount that causes sunburn.

It is safe to say then that in order to enjoy our time in the sun during summer, it’s always important to slather on the right sun block on sun care protection. Remember to use SPF 15 or higher. The SPF factor rates how effective the sunscreen is in preventing sunburn caused by UBV rays. If you’d normally burn in 10 minutes, SPF 15 multiplies that by a factor of 5, meaning you could go 150 minutes before burning.

There is no rating to tell you how good a sunscreen is at blocking UVA rays, so when it comes to UVA protection, you need to pay attention to the ingredients. If you are sporty, get sunscreen that is water and sweat-resistant. Purchase child-friendly sunscreen for children and babies whose skin is more sensitive and easily irritated by chemicals.

You’ve got the high grades, the impressive resume and the killer wardrobe. You’re all revved up for a corporate takeover, but why does your career engine seem to be at a standstill? When you were 12, you practiced emergency CPR on your Barbie doll. Or perhaps you memorized closing arguments and parted your hair in the middle to look like Susan Dey in L.A. Law. Ten years ago, taking up traditional courses such as law or medicine was a virtual guarantee of success. But now, several factors shape today’s labor landscape – making one viable careers redundant and pushing one cellar occupations to the fore. Among these major influences are:

Technology. If you can’t tell the difference between HTML and LOL, watch out. Mass media, e-mail, fax and the internet are breaking down time barriers and physical boundaries, making the 24/7 life the norm rather than the exception.

Automation. Unless you trade in your cerebellum for a hard drive, you may have a hard time looking for labor-intensive jobs. As trade liberalization and globalization increase competition, more businesses are hooking up to the computer to automate operations for a faster turnaround and reduced labor costs. Those with specialized technical skills to manage or operate these machines and systems will benefit.

Economic slowdown. Sad but true. Political instability, terrorism, the threat of war and other depressing events have slowed down global commerce and contributed to cost-cutting moves including downsizing, retrenchments, mergers and layoffs, making thousands jobless.

E-commerce. More businesses are hawking their services direct to the consumer, through direct selling on the internet, online banking, and similar activities, a trend that holds significant portent of the labor market.

Aging population. Medical breakthroughs and discoveries are curing diseases and extending life spans, which in turn boosts industries and careers that deal with health care and drug manufacturing.

Lifestyle changes. A fast-paced lifestyle, two-income families and rising consciousness over one’s physical well-being and preservation are fanning the growth of various service industries including personal and food services.

As daunting as these developments may seem, they only translate to a new wealth of career possibilities for people. Simply put: It’s time for a career makeover.

When it comes to career advancement and opportunities don’t wait – create! Success is not going to come from your accomplishments alone. But you can separate yourself from the crowd and rise to the level of your ambitions – if you create the kind of personal impression that commands respect.

Don’t slack off. It’s not enough to be ambitious. The world is filled with ambition. And the path to success is littered with discarded dreams and disillusioned people who never achieved the recognition or success they felt they deserved. It would be great to skip having to make investments, in skill and credential-building and go straight to the rewards. It’s essential to be genuinely competent worker with the solid skills, expertise and work ethic because ultimately, it’s the quality of the work you do that gets you ahead.

Don’t get discouraged. Don’t lose heart if you don’t get the promotion or raise you wanted. Take a non-confrontational (and non-tearful) approach. Meet with your personnel department and your boss to find out why you were passed over, and ask how you can improve your chances next time. Strengthen your future efforts by going to seminars, training sessions and conferences for people at your prior level.

Don’t have an attitude. A lot of people can’t get ahead not because they’re stupid or lazy but because they have a bad attitude. Most people have a higher tolerance for someone who makes mistakes than for a sulky prima donna. Your attitude comes through in your facial expression, voice, texts and e-mails, as well as your generation disposition, so keep it upbeat. Take pride in your work, aiming to dazzle instead of settling for so-so when completing an assignment.

Don’t overextend yourself. You can’t do everything, and you shouldn’t even try. Being the perennial hand-raiser will only result in antagonizing you’re your co-workers with your greediness, and making them less likely to help you out when you snap like a rubber band from stretching yourself beyond your capabilities. Volunteer for assignments that genuinely interest and challenge you.

Don’t forget the basics. You’d be surprised at how little things such as being punctual and saying “please” and “thank you” single you out from the crowd. Call people back when you say you will. If you can’t meet a deadline, let the involve people know as far in advance as possible. Don’t monopolize conversations or meetings. Listen attentively, and don’t interrupt.

After studying hard to finish their degree in college, graduating students will face a more challenging duty of finding a job. Some graduates will find themselves applying for a position outside their major course while some will have difficulty of finding job at all. Competition in landing for a position is much different than competition in school.

The top 10 employers who hire fresh graduates in 2011 are:

Amazon

Paychex Inc.

JPMorgan Chase

Avon

Google

Johnson & Johnson

Epoch Medical Staffing

Verizon Business

Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital

Baptist Hospital

Employers are hiring new graduates due to company expansion and increasing demand to fill positions open for new graduates. Positions have been reported tripled but companies only accept limited number of applicants to screen for the vacancies. Fresh graduate job seekers have many options to choose from the many employers seeking applicants to fill certain positions. This makes employer received less applications because of the many choices. This is a good economic sign that the job market for job seekers is gaining momentum. Some other employer industries that are aggressive with hiring opportunities include oil and gas companies, computer and electronic industries, chemical manufacturers, banking and finance, and insurance and real estate. Pharmaceutical companies are active in hiring new workers as well.

While there are lots of positions available in many companies and industries, job seeking can still be stiffer due to some reasons. Some employers are more cautious with regards to screening applicants. Some even have certain degree of hesitation regarding their job availability timeline. The hiring of people of different employers and companies somehow depend on the economic recovery of U.S. The trend of the economy is significantly associated with the company’s plan for hiring new employees.

The employers provide helpful information about their job openings. If you are planning to apply for a certain position, make sure that you did your research well about the company and the position. It would be best to start planning and preparing ahead of time. Search jobs on every resources like job sites, school fares, friends, family and the web. Whether you will be employed on these companies, make sure you will give your best to make all your efforts worth doing.

Who would want to clean a house that is a total mess? Many of us must admit that cleaning a house is one of the most difficult and unlikeable chore in the house. Cleaning a house requires determination, patience and effort to accomplish successfully. It is essential to clean the house on a daily basis not just for cleanliness but for your health and safety. Everyday cleaning prevents simple mess from becoming a major task that needs to be done.

Here are the few basic tasks to make your everyday cleaning easy.

Make your bed. Making your bed everyday will keep your room neat looking. It will also prevent you from piling up clothes, papers and other materials on your bed which is an additional work if not done regularly.

Avoid clutter. Always keep everything in their proper place. Look around and see if everything is in place. Take away unpleasant things that you may encounter and pick up those clutters right away and put them where they should be. Organize your things and ask everybody in the house to do the same.

Sort mails. Check your mails and bills regularly. Keep the ones that are important and throw immediately unimportant mails. Mails or bills that should be filed must be kept immediately to avoid clutter.

Clean after cooking. Immediately clean all the pots, pans, dishes, etc after using them. This is to prevent build up in your sink. If you have dishwasher, put dishes inside the dishwasher as soon as you’re done cooking.

Clean dirt and spills right away. Whether its a juice or toothpaste spills, make sure to wipe it immediately. It is easier to remove spills while they are still fresh.

Sweep the floor. Once or twice a day, make it a habit to sweep your floor to prevent dust build up and keep your floor clean and tidy.

Make it a habit to clean your house everyday even with these simple tasks. You may ask everyone in your house to do the same to lighten the load. Everyday cleaning may not be as tough if done on a regular basis.

Recycling is a way to turn waste materials into something useful and functional. The most common materials to recycle are bottles, newspapers and magazines, and cans. Recycling not just reduces waste, but also the need for landfills. Nowadays, gift cards add to the most common materials that should be recycled due to the increasing number of people that use them. At present, it has become the trend for giving gifts to someone.

Gift cards are new monetary system. They are great for those who needs to give a gift but do not know which one to buy and for those gift receivers who have personal needs and wants. Because of its popularity, there were a total of 17 billion plastic cards produced in year 2006 alone. Unfortunately, after consuming the amount of the card, it is now ready be thrown to bins. People do not know that it is harmful to thrash these cards because it contains PVC (polyvinyl chloride), a cancer-causing substance so recycling should be an option.

Here are some tips in recycling your gift cards:

Reload your used gift card and make it as a gift to other person. Some gift cards are rechargeable and they don’t have amount of money indicated on the card so it would be a fun and easy way for you to give a gift the next time.

Your gift card in budgeting. Recharge used gift card and use it to budget your groceries. In this way, you can be sure that you are living within your budget.

Use gift cards to make greeting cards. Cut out wonderful designs of gift cards and paste it on your do-it-yourself greeting card to make it more personalize.

Use gift cards as scrapbook design. Pictures and designs of gift cards are perfect as designs for scrapbook and other crafts and arts thing.

Used gift cards can also be used as key chains. Simply put a hole on one edge and then insert a tie or lace to attach to a bag or keys or anything that needs key chains.

We all hit slumps at certain points in our lives. One moment we’re happy, the next day, we’re not. We attribute this to the “ups and downs” of the cycle of life. But some slumps are harder to get out of than others. Sometimes, no matter how hard we try, the “blues” don’t seem to go away. You can’t quite put your finger on it but you’re listless ad detached. You can’t sleep or you sleep too much, you can’t concentrate, you find yourself bingeing, then feeling guilty. You may be suffering from clinical depression.

If it does then you are in the classic case of depression, which isn’t just a mere case of the blues. Like diabetes, asthma, and heart disease, depression is a medical illness that affects your body, moods, and thoughts. And like these medical cases, you can’t just “shake” depression away like you can’t shake diabetes away. There are ways to treat it as one would treat a medical condition. The first step is actually opening your mind to the possibility that you might be suffering from depression.

At times, people don’t know that they are clinically depressed. There’s a certain amount of denial attached to depression. Clinical depression is incomprehensible to most of us. Pride dictates that we shun sympathy and pity.

If at least five of the following symptoms occur for most of the day, nearly every day for more than two weeks, depression may be present:

Depressed mood, feeling sad or irritable.

Decreased activity, listlessness or restlessness.

Lack of energy for no apparent reason or constant fatigue.

Affected sleeping patterns, either sleeping too much or too little.

Can’t concentrate, forgetfulness, can’t make decisions, or constant flaking out from made decisions.

Change in weight or appetite.

Feelings of guilt, hopelessness or worthlessness

Loss of interest in activities, such as hobbies or sports, lack of interest in spending time with friends or family.

Thoughts of death or suicide

The reason why depression is difficult to diagnose is because the cause isn’t as obvious as with regular medical conditions like diabetes, for example. It’s triggered mostly by events, habits and a multitude of environmental factors. These are stimuli but not necessarily the causes. Clinical depression is caused by an imbalance of certain chemicals in the brain responsible for mood regulation.

College is something all senior high school students are is fretting over. New school, new professors, new people, and an overly new environment may not be the things you want especially if you have been used to going to the same school for years, going with the same people, and being comfortable with everything familiar.

However, going through college is something that is inevitable, well, when you want to graduate and when you want to succeed in life. It is true that college may come off as scary as it is notorious in giving you terror professors, senior bullies, and course subjects that would make you want to cry and scream for help at times, but there sure are things you can do to be able to go through the first semester of college in a breeze. Here are some of those things:

Always travel in packs. It helps a lot to establish new friendships on your first day of college and stick with these friends when going to classes or in having recess at the cafeteria. It helps you get away with the bullies and more importantly, it helps the anxiety and the feeling of nervousness to go away because you have friends to experience things the first time with.

Seek assistance to your professors or people who are a batch or batches higher than you. They have been in the school longer than you have and it is not bad to seek help from people who know better than you do, at all times. Remember that one way of learning is surrounding yourself with people smarter than you or in this case with more experience than you, so why not make your life easier and seek help from them than trying to figure out things alone?

Join extra-curricular activities and various organizations that cater to your interests. This is a great way to expand your network and to enhance your talents, meet new people, and explore your capabilities other than the academic side of it. Organizations are a breath of fresh air form all the studying. Do not deprive yourself of some social fun activities. You are freshmen, there’s no need to fuss over your studies and start becoming overly grade-conscious.

Undeniably, nursing, nowadays, is one of the most popular professions among college students. Many senior high school students are thinking of getting a nursing degree when they set foot in college because of the vast opportunities the profession is offering. But being a nurse is not an easy job and not exactly an easy degree to pass and graduate from. In this article, you would be talked through the whole process of how to become a nurse and the guidelines you may consider to become one.

First off, you have to take a degree in nursing offered in universities. Nursing in universities is normally a four-year course of which half of this time will be dedicated to working on hospitals applying what you learn inside the classroom. You will be assigned to different departments, patients, and situations. You will be supervised during the whole time.

Upon graduation of the degree, you should take reviews for the local nursing board exam administered by the government. In order to be a licensed nurse and to be able to legally work in hospitals or wherever you decide to, you need to pass the nursing board exam. Aside from that, if you choose to work overseas, there are also nursing board exams to be passed in these countries for you to be allowed to work in their place.

If you choose to have a deeper understanding of nursing or if you want to widen the scope of your practice, you can take master’s courses on nursing. You can also take technical programs or midwifery programs if you feel that it is your passion. In these programs, you are required to complete certain number of cases, patients, and other requirements in order to be a licensed one in your chosen field.

Nursing is more than just about knowledge. In fact, nursing needs more passion than knowledge. Passion to take care of others and to do everything that has to be done in order to help other people with their conditions and discomforts.
