Underground rap is a mystery to some. Even some fans of hip hop think that underground stuff is bad or unnecessary. Some don’t understand it at all. I think there is a reason for underground rap. Mainstream rap is all pretty much the same. It’s smooth but still pretty mild and most of the hip hop that you here on the radio are toned down to appease the masses. It is just pop music. Underground on the other hand is much more raw and uncut. It is exactly how the artists wanted their music to be. It doesn’t have any changes by the producers so that it will sell better. In some cases, it is much stronger as well.
Underground rap appeals to people who don’t care for the watered down hip hop on the radio and want some more hardcore music. I can understand that and consider myself a fan of underground. Most people don’t like it because it is different from what they are used to but I think that it has more soul. It’s great to have access to both and as a music lover I say to each there own.
