In the Midst of Finals

As much as the student goes through during finals week, for those of us who are married to students who have returned to college, it’s no picnic either. It’s as if the world stops for the last two weeks of every semester and nothing with the exception of the assignment, project or test exists. Laundry does not get done, dinners don’t get cooked and made and the kids and dad are on their own.

Luckily, good old dad actually took care of himself for many years before marriage so we do get by alright but the wife, mother and student is absolutely not available for anything at home. It’s all she can do to keep up with school and work and it’s hard to remember if that’s how it was when I was in school. I know I studied but I never had the added pressure of work and family so in comparison, I had it easy. I also wonder if teachers realize the difference between a student who has nothing else to do but to attend class and study and a mother with a full time job and two kids at home who are demanding of her time as well, not to mention a husband who misses his wife… Oh well, in a week she will return until the end of the next semester.
